Salt, Sugar and AdditivesUpdated 4 hours ago

Salt & Sugar

We work with our children’s dietitian, Lucy Upton, to create meals that are nutritionally balanced for children. We never add salt or sugar when cooking our meals.

Some ingredients, like cheese, oat milk, and tomato purée, naturally contain small amounts of salt or sugar. The sugar shown on our nutritional labels mostly comes from naturally occurring sugars in vegetables and carbohydrates, which is common in nearly all foods.

Salt and sugar levels are minimal, but you can always check the nutritional table on the product page or packaging for exact amounts.

Additives

An additive is any ingredient that serves a specific function in a food. We use very few additives, and they are all safe, natural, and similar to what you’d use at home. Examples include:

  • Baking powder (mono calcium phosphate, corn starch, sodium bicarbonate): Makes pancakes and courgette bites light and fluffy.

  • Citric acid: Added to tinned tomatoes as a natural preservative (less than 2%, same as in lemons).

These additives are safe for children and used in very small amounts.
